- Lyme’s Disease
- High blood pressure (if controlled)
- Depression and/or Anxiety
- Herpes infections (clearance not typically needed, but prophylactic antiviral required for lip procedures)
- Trichotillomania
- Alopecia
- Rosacea
- Eczema
- Psoriasis
- Vitiligo
- History of skin sensitivities
Will Require a Doctors Clearance
- Pacemaker
- Stent/Valve replacements
- Cancer (must be at least 6 months post-treatment)
- Diabetes (even when controlled — due to delayed healing risk)
- Sarcoidosis
- Lichen Planus
- Autoimmune disorders
- Severe cystic acne (especially if client is still on strong meds like isotretinoin or hormonal therapies
- Actively nursing
🚫 Not a Candidate for Permanent Makeup (Absolute Contraindications)
These clients should not receive PMU under any circumstance due to significant health risks, compromised immunity, or conditions that severely impair healing.
- Pregnant
- Immune compromised (e.g., chemotherapy, immunosuppressants, severe chronic illness)
- Organ transplant recipient
- Hemophilia or other bleeding/clotting disorders
- Cancer currently undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy
- Epilepsy (due to seizure risk during treatment)
- HIV and/or AIDS
- Hepatitis A, B, or C
- Lupus (any form)
- Pyoderma Gangrenosum
- Currently required to take blood thinners (unless cleared AND paused for 7 days)
- Currently on or taken Accutane in the past 12 months
🛑 Medications & Treatments to Pause or Avoid Before PMU
💊 Medications to Stop Before Your Appointment
(Check with your physician for approval before stopping any medications.)
These medications may cause excessive bleeding, poor pigment retention, or sensitivity during treatment:
- Aspirin and NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Excedrin, etc.)
- Blood Thinners (e.g., Warfarin, Plavix, Eliquis)
- Antibiotics (unless prescribed specifically for your PMU session)
- Steriods
- Tetracycline or Doxycycline
- Medications that increase sun or touch sensitivity (e.g., some acne or dermatology prescriptions)
- Fertility medications
- Eyelash growth serums (e.g., Latisse, RevitaLash)
- Accutane (must be stopped at least 12 months before PMU)
⏳ Procedures to Avoid Within 4 Weeks of Your PMU Appointment
These treatments may affect skin texture, sensitivity, and pigment retention:
- Chemical peels or laser treatments
- Botox or Dysport
- Injectable fillers
- Facials or microdermabrasion
